The Arkansas State Land Records were donated to the History Commission by the Arkansas State Land Commissioner's Office. The records range in date from 1853 to 1956 and include Land Donation Applications, Swamp Land Applications, Swamp Land Patents, Proof of Internal Improvement Papers, Proof of Loss Documents, Forfeited Deeds, Relinquishment Papers, and other legal documents generated by the State Land Commissioner's Department. The information contained within these records is particularly useful in placing an individual at a specific location at a specific point in time.

The database which describes the contents of the State Land Records includes entries for last name, first name, date, box number, folder number, record type, and legal description. By using the box and folder numbers, a researcher can view specific documents at the Arkansas History Commission or request a photocopy by mail. Entries will be added to the database on a regular basis until processing of the entire collection is completed.
